The SOD theory, while an entertaining read, is not what's happened here. What happened is the admin of the site threw a hissy fit and rather than talk it out like a rational person, took the entire site out and pouting like a child. He trashed years and years of the biggest JAV community all bc he got his feelings hurt. He's gonna park his weak ass on the site til next year when the domain name is up for grabs. Don't count on it though, he'll renew it out of spite and continue to do nothing with it. Ad for the thousands upon thousands of threads? Those are gone already. He's wiped em clean from existence. So there's your update from someone in the know. Scanlover is dead bc of 1 coward who'd rather kill an entire site rather than listen to improvement suggestions.
A user just a few weeks before the current website takedown has posted trailers for upcoming JAV from JAV studio Soft on Demand (SOD) that were not supposed to be public yet (though he did not obtain them through illicit means, he just found them by going through different URLs on the SOD website). Other, more malicious users have then reposted those trailers under actresses' Twitter profiles, which prompted Soft on Demand to notice this trailer leak. I assume since all of those trailers were originally posted on scanlover first, SOD might have decided to take legal action against the forum, hence why it is shut down now. Of course this is just my theory, but it's the most logical explanation I could come up with. I hope the user is alright though and won't face legal consequences, again he didn't do anything illegal to obtain those trailers. It would be silly if all of those JAV streaming sites can operate without issues, but if someone posts a trailer that's not supposed to be out yet, all hell breaks loose. Japan and their use of copyright infringement claims is famously outdated...
Their unDrm service is also criminal as well coming from a person that knows how it works. They get a free movie and profit massively. $10 to request a new link if it dies, what a joke. They talk as if you can't create a free account and buy the movie for them to undrm, but that's a complete lie and just want the movie in their catalog.
I'm not as active as many other users but I would be lying if I said that things like it being down without warning has become a real pain. But when you consider how absolutely awful the Admin/Mods are when it comes to managing the forum. It should surprise no one that they wouldn't even do something as simple as warm the users of site maintenance.
