Funny how the took the complaint count away, too many complaints, icq mail ru cannot of liked it, it's still if you ever read this and you made no effort to fix it, my emails gone forever, thanks for nothing mail ru.

Does not work for me, still won't accept user name or password since it was taken over, big screw up by them, or maybe they just deleted some accounts on purpose, will never get the answers as all companies involved are less than helpful, in fact totally useless. I have tried logging in from 3 different countries on my travels and does not matter where you are it still won't accept you, so quite obvious they deleted the accounts, or maybe not as I emailed myself from a different account and it has not been returned, will try that again soon, bet it will be returned then I know for sure they deleted the email account I had for 14 years, good job crappy icq, aol, and of course the worst of all mail.ru, cheers.

I agree with all comments of last person on here I have tried all the same things, no help at all from any icq, aol, or mail ru, we'll other than they wanted my passwords, but it says on the site they will never ask for passwords, I was in such a mess about not been able to access my emails I nearly gave them, but in end decided May as we'll let the crappy icq mail ru email who ever the hell owns and messed them up accounts, decided to let them go, even though am really annoyed about not been able to transfer my old email stuff, all in all a crap take over and not help given at all useless, marks out of 10 - a million I think.

Looks like either everyone, apart from me must have got icqmail to work, or that everyone gave up on this site, as if like me you report it and contact all the email people involved icqmail, aol, and mail ru and get no help what so ever, what crap companies are they.

Latest from icq, I actually got a reply, They say maybe my account has been deleted because I did not use it for 90 days, wrong and they lie, I used it everyday, that is everyday till mail ru took over then it all screwed up big time, one thing locking people out of their accounts, another having to lie to cover all the mess they have created, worst take over and customer care of any company I have had to deal with, lock people out create loads of space on the servers when they delete you brilliant strategy . Icq down for some and down for ever now.

Icqmail , mail ru and aolmail who sold out are all crap.

Still no luck I have used the site you said rock, still says either wrong user name or password, don't know why as they are the same, does not matter what I do nothing works, tried contacting icq yet again, but as usual no help at all, mail ru are a waste of time too, all I can say is the people who have got into their accounts you are all very very very very lucky people.

Hi Chloe, Agree with all you say, I have been able to help 26 people so far. ALL MUST use https://en.mail.ru/ (english version) to login, when sucessful they have been able to use the english version of the russian site OR chane email client to anyother program. About 1/2 have moved to another e-mail provider, now they have access to Contacts and e-mails the rest have Backed-up ( forwarded e-mails to another provider - usually G-mail)' and have decided to stick with icqmail as provided by mail.ru. The 4 people I have not been able to work with have not been able to get there password to work on the Mail.ru (english) site. For these I don't have a solution at this time. Except keep trying sUUupport on the MAIL.RU site. Use and translator eg google translator - English to Russian and back. I have now deleted the test account I setup on Mail.ru. But still can be contacted on my ICQMAIL address if anyone wants help. Regards Rock.

Paul you are spot on, no help from anyone of the 3 involved, we should be able to get compensation from either icq and or aol for not telling us they were selling it on to mail ru, and not warning us to back up or get new accounts elsewhere and forward everything just in case it screwed up, like it has done big time, all are crap I have contacted all of them with no help to fix the problem.

8 Sep 2014 Also during former years, icqmail had not functioned during wars in Israel-Palestine. This time in 2014, it does last longer. There always is the Israel-Palestine conflict. The servers of icqmail seem to be in Israel. It seems that private hackers or government hackers with Ddos block the entry to icqmail. Ddos is most frequently applied by hackers. Ddos means too many hackers permanently try to enter icqmail and by this block entry to icqmail for others. When I want to enter icqmail, I as others do get: (translated into English): Error: Oops, due to an unexpected error, you can not log in now. Please try again later. If icqmail had really ended operation, they would have said it in some sentences on the website. As this is not the case, it must be hackers. I would not give my password into other websites calling themselves icqmail. They may be the same hackers who block icqmail. Should icqmail continue one day, these hackers do have your password and can use it against you. When icqmail some weeks ago for some days was not blocked, I had seen that the E-mails from everywhere had arrived in icqmail. Only the entry to icqmail was blocked. Perhaps the hackers in the future will let open icqmail or not. I look from time to time, but have started using another E-mail account instead. For me important things, I do not leave them on E-mail accounts, but copy them to my computer and my external hard disks and M-discs. I just noticed that ICQ - Chat (ICQ 8) also does not work anymore. But ICQ2go is functioning OK. Vol1.

Thanks for the tip richard tried that also, nothing just the same saying user name and password wrong, it's a joke really, why can some people get into their accounts and some cannot, there is such a variation of problems people are having, some get in normally some have to use thunderbird, so get in but no old emails are there, and some just cannot get in at all, bad company bad customer relations, at least they could have warned us to back up or change email address to another company before destroying our account, thanks icqmail, or aolmail or mail ru who ever you are thanks very much.

Login at www.icqmail.com, use your icq email adress and password, but type behind your password your icq name. as follows; [email protected] password, the behind your password 1234. log worker but NO ACCES to my old email!! maybe this will work for some of you! s6.

More than 3 weeks for me, tried all ways for help, finally got an email from maybe icq but I don't know now, could be mail ru, said for me to send my passwords, on official icq site says they will never ask for passwords, as I can't log in anyway it said user or password incorrect, what we supposed to, tried Facebook as some said, waste of time they just sent me link to icq main page, going on too long now think email for us unlucky ones has gone, and if by some miracle it came on, but it was empty like some said, then it's pointless having, bad bad bad company, no help or information.

You are lucky, I cannot open icqmail anyway anyhow, tablet, pc, phone, tried everything, nothing works, and still icq or mail ru do not respond to any questions, give and help or assistance whatsoever, why are you not listening, why wont you try to help us out, the few lucky ones who have been able, by some miracle I would say, able to access their email accounts, you are all very lucky.

I am able to get my icqmail on my tablet but not my laptop.

Thanks CINDY :) I was able to get into my icqmail account with the first 8 letters of the password as I too had 9 characters... unfortunately, it still is that russian site and have to keep translating to english. but at least i can move the important emails out and say good bye to icq once and for all!

Hello, I am concerned of the number who can not get Thunderbird going. So I have setup a test account to all try. To setup an email address on mail.ru (need to as thats who run icqmail now.) Please do the following. Download and install Thunderbird mail ( or use any other email program). Email address = [email protected]. Password = Testicqdown23 note the first T is Capital. You will be give a choice of IMAP or POP3. Move the check button from IMAP to POP3. Thats all you need to do. Except hit � Get Messages� top right. If using a different email program ( Windows live, K9, Opera, etc) Use SSL/TLS Authentication, Incomming server pop.mail.ru, port 995. Outgoing server smpt.mail.ru, port 465. There is an e-mail in there for you .

After 16 years I am finally giving up on ICQ mail. I tried the thunderbied option and it will not go through. I tried emailing my icq address and it now bounces back. The russian company that took over let us all down big time. goodbye icq. you lived up to your names. I really seek you, and cant find you.

Tried everything contacting icq and aol and mail ru all are useless no assistance or help given , all I get is oops error or on other site user name or password incorrect but its not, there system is screwed up, tried thunderbird settings won't work, tried pretty everything been down for 3 weeks and nothing , why did they no send us an email to say It was been taken over and give us option to move to another net email or tell us to back up, crazy looks like lost email that I had with them 14 years, guess does not say a lot for company that took over does it.

I CANNOT OPEN MY E-MAILS. I USE THIS E-MAIL FOR MY BUSINESS ETC.. AND EVERYTHING IS BLOCKED SINCE ONE MONTH NOW. SOMETHING MUST BE DONT URGENTLY.

Just put FIX on my Smartphone (Andriod 4.1) with K9 email and Androids native email app. Pleased to report it WORKS with Both above email programs. Once again e-mail if you need help. (see my last post for details) Cheers.

Gerhard. Try this. Go to https://www.icqmail.com/ There is an option there - in blue "Forgot Password" . This is the old AOL login screen. Enter your ICQMAIL address and it should send you an e-mail to you "Backup email address" you entered many years ago when you signed up for ICQmail. All others. Please try the Thunderbird solution. You only need to enter 3 or 4 things! Let thunderbird sort out all the "Port and ssl/tsl" Stuff. just choose POP3 type to transfer ALL your old and current emails to your Computing device. Then you can forward them to a new email address is you want to ditch ICQMAIL. And if anyone still sends you an e-mail to your icqmail, then you will get it. AND Nothing is in Russian ! Please feel fee to e-mail me if you are still stuck. My username is riddymorgan (at) (you guessed it) icqmail (dot) com.

Does anybody know how it is possible to get the password from the old icqmail account As I had a password with a special character which I fear is no longer accepted with the ru mail. I tried to login to with my old password which was not possible. When I tried it without the special character in various versions I got following warning We have detected suspicious attempts to access your mailbox. "You may have mistyped your password or attempted to access your mailbox from an unusual location. To verify that it is really you, please retype your password and enter the code from the picture below. " Therefore does anybody know how it is possible to reset or to retrieve the password of an existing account. I tried also with a mail server which does not look to work because I did not login at least once via the .ru service. Any hints from you would be very much appreciated.

I finally find out the reason why icqmail stopped working all of a sudden and can never log on, apparently, ICQMAIL's new password policy is maximum 8 character, my previous password that I've been using forever was 9 character, and guess what???? none of those new POP or IMAP solution works for me before because I've been trying to put in my 9 character password, so if you have password that's more than 8 character long, JUST ENTER YOUR password with first 8 characters ONLY, IT WILL WORK LIKE MAGIC, there goes my hours and hours of time wasted for stupid shit like this. I followed exactly what passionfarm said and on ICQmail.com website, but it's just NOT WORKING, it says I need to log onto ICQMAIL at least once for this to work, but the problem is I cannot even log onto icqmail.com, it just took me to russian website, can someone please help me out?????

Vinny, Read Passionsfarm solution below nIt WORKS. I have tested it with Windows Live and Thunderbird email programs. It loads ALL you emails AND gives you and English program to work with for future emails. If you ( or anyone ) needs assistance in setting up any e-mail client program just ask, or use Passionsfarm solution below.

IMPORTANT! Good day. I guess ICQMail servers were moved to Russia some weeks ago. Possibly due to some law from the 1st August. But I'm not sure about it. Anyway, if you didn't know that, ICQ has been belonging to a Russian IT-company known as Mail.Ru Group for more than 4 years. As far as I can see, ALL old icqmail accounts were deleted by ICQ admins not so long ago. I don't know why. That was a stupid decision. Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 Message was not accepted -- invalid mailbox. Local mailbox [email protected] is unavailable: user not found This is an automated reply which you receive when trying to send an email to anyone. As you can see, there is no such user on the server. That means it was deleted like other icqmail accounts, as I said. Everyone can test it on his own icqmail account using another mail account (gmail, for example). I don't know any ways to recover mail account or to register new ones. You can TRY to log in to your icqmail account here: https://icqmail.com (s in https is required). That is and old style icqmail page. Please post your results here. But I don't think it will work.

UPDATE: found an old news article that mail.ru bought out icq years ago and is trying to make it popular again. Use www.icqmail.com to log in, fill in name and security picture code and you have your account back. Everything will be in russian but if you use google translate to log in, most of the page will be english.

Logging in to icqmail goes to a russian mail.ru site. Since I use unique passwords and had nothing to lose so I logged in. It is my account - all my old emails are there. Problem is, everything else on the page is in Russian. WTF?

Attempts to get into my icqmail account kick me over to a Russian mail client "mail.ru" looks like my account has been hijacked.

The funny thing is, I'm still able to log into my ICQ account using my ICQ email as username and my password. Did you follow Stressed's instruction as stated below? Click Others then type in [email protected] and password, no complicated steps. If you're sure everything is done correctly, then there is possibility that your account has been compromised. Try to contact mai.ru for help. If your account is inactive for over three months, then it will be deleted by aol.com.

It happens to me! No symbols allowed. Sorry, my mistake. Both pop3.mail.ru and smtp,mail.ru servers work fine, all you have to do is to go to Setting, Folder, move your mouse to the end of folder name, some icons will appear, just uncheck Unavailable to email clients Pop3, voila!

Hi Stressed, thanks for the instructions, I've successfully changed the language from Russian to English, login and modify my account setting, that including add an additional email address, add my mobile phone number and changed my password to a more secure password. I notice that there are no imap/pop/smtp servers settings, maybe that means we cannot use other email clients, other than the website, to login. Apart from the icqmail, I go back to Icq webpage and log into my Icq account, with that 8 digits old password, successfully! Is that mean both of these servers not replicating properly? Really have no idea what happen to them, wish someone either from aol or mail.ru could explain. They even don't bother to notify us anything, do they?

To Stressed : it looks like the AOL is no longer supporting icqmail users. Icqmail was sold out by AOL to Russians some years ago already. And it looks like the Russian company Mail.ru has migrated the icqmail users in their server from the AOL. Therefore, the AOL login hyperlink you provided below does not work. And therefore the www.icqmail.com login looks different as it seems now to be on the Russian server. Once you login to your icqmail with your credentials, you might get another pop up screen to ask for your "name to appear on your profile". I got this in Russian language and just entered something (not my password) and I was opened into Russian language icqmail inbox with all my emails in it. At the right hand bottom corner there was a Russian link where to change the language to English. And everything seems to work there. However, I do not think I will continue to use this Russian version of my icqmail. To Volker: I had the sync setup with my iPad and my Windows phone email clients to icqmail.com servers and these obviously do not work either anymore. It seems that the server for icqmail is under e.mail.ru and I guess the settings would need to be updated accordingly. Though I will most likely start using a new email domain instead of continuing using icqmail.com. I hope this helps.

Ok, finally found at the very bottom right hand corner the link to change the language of the interface. From Russia to English. And everything looks now clear. Although, I do not think the service is the same as before. I will strongly consider migrating everything off from icqmail to a new email client. Pity. Have been using icqmail since 1998 or so...

I had the same problems. In IE, when logging in, the login screen looks totally different and after giving correct credentials, I get another screen from mail.ru and all in Russian language. I tried Google Translator and it basically asks for contact details / name to appear on the main page. So I entered just "something" in those fields the security code visible on the screen and after that, I got access to my icqmail inbox and the mails! HOWEVER, the whole user interface is in Russian language!!! I do not speak Russia and some of the buttons are not possible to "copy-paste" to Google translator so it will be either a very long quest trying to change the settings to English, or I will just have to migrate all I have from icqmail to some other email client. Most likely the latter. I hope this post helps you all to get access to your emails as well. Btw, just for those who are wondering, mail.ru acquired the icqmail from AOL some time ago. And yes, I have three new emails from mail.ru in my inbox now explaining somehting - also all in Russian language! So I do not know if this is just coincident with the things going between Russia and Western World because of Ukraine or just some really bad upgrade done by mail.ru.

After not being able to get to my icqmail account since, say July 20, unexpectedly I was able to use it again on August 5, even though this site said that icqmail.com was down. Then, I tried to access my icqmail acct through "www.icqmail.com", I was sent to "http://www.icqmail.com/", notice "http:" instead of "https:" thus an unsecure page; same sh*t if I tried "icqmail.com". I think that somebody has hijacked both "icqmail.com" and "www.icqmail.com" with bogus pages in order to lift passwords. Had the weird Russian language page login thing too- Go to aol.com and click the mail tab, should work.

Managed to log in today. But got kicked out while I was still in and now says "Error: Incorrect Username or Password" I havent changed it and can't seem to be able reset it either.

Have not been able to access email since 18 July 2014. Can't help but wonder if this doesn't have something to do with the sanctions on Russia. I have already created a new gmail account, but would at least like to get in and clean out icqmail. I hate changing email accounts as I have had this one for years.

Same problems here. I find it bit rude that they would just turn off the server without warning. Not surprised really as I have had issues with AOL in the past. I do get the same as above "error: oops ..." My experience from former years: The servers of icq mail and AOL mail are in Israel. When Israel makes a bigger war, then icq mail and AOL mail are switched off. I think they need the servers for the war then. After the end of the bigger war, icq mail and AOL mail do function again.

Icqmail isn't longer supported by AOL. Maybe you are lucky and ICQ will turn on a mailserver with your old emails.
